Worthy- A Poem, by Alexia Jasmene

The dots of the ceiling seem to

Merge in the shadows of the night.

Sleep has escaped capture

And instead each dot begins to

Represent the slights and wrongs

From those you love,

Wondering where you went wrong

To deserve such pain....

The dots begin to blur and the

Silence replaced with the self emulation of your hurt child’s voice,

Screaming with anguish as your

Head begins to swim.

Tears begin to form and blur further

The dwindling reality of the present,

Consuming your chest tight,

Rapid in breath,

Feeling the pain begin to crush and

Squeeze out every ounce of hope,

Just wishing for it to stop,

The feeling of being expendable,

Of not being seen,

Of being worthless...

Then you manage to capture the

Smallest glint of light.

You feel a warmth not from the love

Given by others,

But from the depths of the pain in

Your chest...

It begins slowly like an ember and

Then you trust and let go allowing

The breath and sobs to deepen

Until the fire is lit and becomes an

Inferno of life,

You feel your love,

You feel your warmth,

You feel your joy,

You feel your worth...

The deep breaths and sobbing

Continue with joy instead of pain

For surviving the darkness and anguish

Deep inside.

Gratitude for life and breath reach

Your younger self and wrap a warm

Blanket of safety and love.

You feel a voice,

Your voice,

But one outside of the pain,

Whisper into your soul,

“You are loved. You are worthy.

You are loved. You are worthy.

You are loved. You are worthy.

You are loved. You are worthy”...

Your breath begins to slow,

And your eyes begin to close,

As a faint smile creeps across your mouth and eyes,

And especially your heart.
