Child- A Poem, By Alexia Jasmene

The crickets chirp in the stifling summer breeze,

Lights dimly illuminate the horizon.

Trains bring delight as they cry in the musical night,

Bringing excitement for the red caboose different, but special…

The heart dances in this camaraderie of no longer feeling alone,

The screens illuminate images of deep truths and desires,

Of seeing strong princesses and warriors fight for love.

Their friendship strikes a strong chord in your hidden heart,

Hiding the truth of your light for fear of it being snuffed out.

Clothes that conform to others view,

Your heart cries in anguish as the girl you know can’t breathe,

Feeling crushed by the darkness of shame and pain…

As time revolves,

A young woman finally emerges,

Though she is battered and scarred from a life of shadows.

She journeys through many storms and tunnels and fields and deserts,

In order to find that inner girl,

That inner child crying in the dark.

She slowly approaches,

Dimly creating light as to not startle the child.

She kneels and creates lights that dance with delight,

Calming the child’s fears.

She says to the child that she is here now,

That the child’s light is so very beautiful and bright,

And that she will play with her.

She embraces the child and tells her what a beautiful young girl she is,

That she is seen,

That she is loved.

That she will play with her until the end of her days

And that the child gets to be free and shine her light for all to see.
